Nicole+Jordan: Wedding!

January 18th, 2014

We’ve known both Nicole and Jordan for several years now. We’ve laughed together, cried together, and while Jordan and I did that, Nicole and Khanh were probably watching from a distance, rolling their eyes. We’ve known both Nicole and Jordan for several years now. We’ve laughed together, cried together, and while Jordan and I did that, Nicole and Khanh were probably watching from a distance, rolling their eyes. When Nicole+Jordan came to Meng and I about shooting their wedding, we were ecstatic. They got ready and held their wonderful ceremony at Grace Evangelical Free Church. Nicole looked even more beautiful than usual, and Jordan put it all on with that level of distinction he seems to conjure up from who-knows-where. We made use of Locke County Park for a majority of photos. Of course, we took full advantage of the awesome train tracks and rail cars that just so happened to be parked in place (just for us?) We made our way to Rush Creek Golf Course in Maple Grove to sneak in a few more photos, and enjoy ourselves for the reception. Unfortunately for everyone, we put down the cameras and owned the dance floor for just a couple songs…I think I remember Get Lucky playing? We had an outstanding day with our close friend Nicole+Jordan, and their photos show it!

Enjoy!

Party. Party. Not one experience with Margo+Steve last year lacked fun and laughter! We had an exceptional time with the couple, along with their friends and family at the popular Profile Event Center on their wedding day. We were able to take advantage of the near by University of Minnesota McNamara Alumni Center for some gorgeous indoor photos. The design of the interior was perfect to capture the couple! After the ceremony, everyone took to the dance floor and partied hard- especially Margo+Steve!

Enjoy the photos!

So, fresh off an afternoon of shooting with us, welcoming friends and family (most were from out of state), putting the last minute touches on their plans, and maybe a little bit of sleep, Taylor+Derek were ready to celebrate their love for each other. Taylor began the fun with her bridesmaids at Blast Blow Dry Bar. Both her and Derek then completed their looks back at their hotels, to then gather at Spill The Wine for photos, their ceremony, and party! The style of their wedding was unique and so very personal. They had a were responsible for hand crafting and creating every detail, and it shows.

Enjoy these photos!

A Start, an End, and a New Begining…

MengGoodbye-1

Tomorrow marks the end of a chapter in the book of Snap.Grin Photography (if someone had the time to write a book about us…)

Many have heard this story, but here it is again:

Back in 2008, fresh off the high of buying our first home, my wife (then fiancé), and I were planning our own wedding for the following year- and subsequently our honeymoon as well. Having settled on a trip to Paris and Rome, I thought to my self, “I can’t just bring a simple point and shoot camera!” So I purchased my first Digital SLR- a reliable Canon Rebel XSi with a kit 18-55mm lens, a couple batteries, and a 8GB compact flash card. Auto-mode became my best friend.

Soon we began hosting house parties that saw 30-45 people dancing, playing Rockband, enjoying each others company, and making use of the supplied libations.

This I how the first chapter began:

Thinking back, I am sure it wasn’t as dramatic and straight forward as I’ll say I remember it, but this way sounds much better, and would make a much cooler Hollywood movie someday, maybe directed by Scorsese? Anyways, as I stood in my kitchen, up on a chair, taking photos of friends dancing in my kitchen, taking shots, making fools of themselves, a group of familiar faces walked into my house, escorting in a few unfamiliar, new faces, one of which was slightly covered by thick rimmed glasses, with a Sony camera in his hand, a custom leather strap, and a metal Minolta 50mm 1.8 lens.

This was Mr. Meng Yang.

We began talking about cameras, photography, the expenses around it, and how we would both love to own the very best of all the “needed” accessories. Meng had already invested time in understanding his equipment beyond Auto, so I had so many questions.

Months later we were still talking about photography, completely obsessed of course. We would send each other links to new lenses, and links to online tutorials and photographer’s sites. We realized we wanted an excuse to further indulge.

Weddings.

Snap.Grin was born of a couple of techy-gadget nerds, with a hidden creative side (and a reference to a popular Monty Python sketch, know what I mean, know what I mean, nudge nudge, wink wink).

After countless actuations, from several different cameras, through different iterations of lenses, I could never recreate the fun I have had shooting with Meng. Thanks to our mixing of encouragement and passion, we successfully captured so many weddings and other events together, putting smiles on so many faces, and ensuring new friends would never forget the most important days of their lives.

As you all have seen through facebook, instagram, twitter, behind-airplane-streamer, this site, etc, Meng has done what few of us could; he has packed up his cameras and lenses, closet full of shoes and flannels, and kayak, and moved from family and friends to pursue advancement in his career. For this we most certainly commend him.

Without Meng, there would have been no Snap.Grin Photography. Without Meng, I certainly wouldn’t have pursued what has become one of the most challenging but fulfilling aspects of my life.  I personally have learned so much thanks to him, and not only gained a business partner, but a brother.

Tomorrow will be the last Wedding Meng and I capture together as Snap.Grin Photography.

With all of that being said, Snap.Grin will carry on, doing justice to what Meng and I started. My wife, Khanh, with camera in hand, will work to fill Meng’s shoes (probably similar size- Khanh and small feet… that is, if he left a pair here in MN).  I have absolutely no doubt that with her impeccable photography style,  warm and inviting personality, and incredible work ethic, Snap.Grin will go places we hadn’t thought of.

KhanhHello-1

Please join me in thanking Meng for all his contributions to Snap.Grin, and celebrating the next chapter, welcoming Khanh to the Snap.Grin Team.

Within the next few weeks, I will be updating the site, posting the past years work, new packages and options, and all of the work still to come!

Check out this gorgeous set!  We spent the day downtown St. Paul (which never gets enough credit) around the 413.  The wedding party, the weather, the setting, the colors, the EVERYTHING was perfect.

Stay tuned for our 2013 work!
